Chicago Fire Acquire Defender Rafael Ramos and Targeted Allocation Money from Orlando City SC

CHICAGO (Jan. 18, 2018) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Thursday that the club has acquired defender Rafael Ramos and $100,000 in Targeted Allocation Money - $50,000 in 2018 and $50,000 in 2019 - from Orlando City SC in exchange for the Homegrown rights to Cameron Lindley. Ramos is under contract for the 2018 season with a club option for 2019.
“Rafael Ramos has shown early in his career that he is a capable defender in our league. We feel his qualities and mentality will fit well with our team and believe he has another level to reach in his development,” aid Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. “Additionally, we wish the best to a former Chicago Fire Academy product in Cameron Lindley as he begins his professional career."
Ramos signed with Orlando City during the 2014 USL season from SL Benfica. While with the Portuguese side, he helped the U-19s reach the final of the 2013-14 UEFA Youth League.
From 2015-17, Ramos appeared in 39 league matches for Orlando City and tallied five assists.
The 23-year-old additionally appeared in seven USL matches for Orlando City B in 2017.
