Each year, Major League Soccer and Wells Fargo recognize individuals who are using soccer to improve the lives of others. Beginning now through August 1st at 1PM CT, you can vote for the 2018 MLS WORKS Community MVP Grand Prize winner.
MLS fans nominated individuals within their community who have utilized soccer as a tool to make a positive impact. The 23 finalists have made a significant change in areas such as:
- Social issues focusing on inclusion, diversity and equality
- Health issues affecting men, women, or children
- Community service for a local, national and/or international charity or community organization
The Chicago Fire are proud to support local nominee Doco Wesseh, creator of One Goal Foundation. Doco's inspiration to start the organization was ignited from his own personal experience as a refugee of war. Surrounded by hardships, he was separated from his family and was brought to the U.S. by a Christian missionary family. The mission of One Goal is to help underprivileged children in Liberia get an education and teach them a sense of community involvement through the sport of soccer.
"I felt the children of Liberia deserve the opportunity to play like other children around the world," Doco said.
It only takes a jersey and a ball to change the life of a child and make them feel a sense of belonging.
The Community MVP finalist will receive two tickets to a 2018 MLS Regular Season match in their local market, along with a trip the MLS All-Star week in Atlanta. In addition, Wells Fargo will donate $1,000 to the nonprofit of their choice.
You can vote for the Grand Prize winner through the Community MVP Contest site.
