After helping secure a clean sheet in Saturday's 1-0 win against the New York Red Bulls, Chicago Fire FC defender Carlos Terán has been named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 22.
The 20-year-old continued his steady run of form along the defensive back line in what was his fifth-straight start for head coach Raphael Wicky. Since this run of starts began, the Fire have won three matches and kept a pair of clean sheets in five attempts. By the numbers, Terán contributed 12 defensive actions (clearances, blocks, recoveries, and interceptions) on Saturday according to Opta.
In addition, while not credited with an assist on the play, Terán's long throw-in led to the scramble in the Red Bulls' 18-yard box that resulted in Robert Berić's 32nd minute game-winning goal.
Terán and the Fire will have a break from league play next weekend during the FIFA international window, but return to action with a trip to take on Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, Sept. 11 (7:30 p.m. CT | WGN-TV, CFFC Live, Latino Mix 93.5 FM).
