The fun, elegance, timelessness and cross-cultural connectivity inherent in the beautiful game were on full display Wedensday night at the 2015 Art of Futbol event hosted by the Chicago Fire Foundation. The fifth edition of the annual function brought the Chicago Fire Soccer Club and Chicago’s thriving arts community together under one roof at Prairie Production Studio in the city’s West Loop.
The Chicago Fire Foundation received dozens of art submissions -- including a piece from Fire midfielder Matt Watson -- created with a broad range of media, all bringing a unique perspective to the world’s game.
Serving as judges for the evening were Chicago Fire goalkeeper Jon Busch, B96 on-air personality J-Niice and Chicago Fire Senior Manager of Creative Services Kayser dos Reis. After careful consideration, the trio selected Christopher Stone’s pastel collage “Overhead Chicago” as the event’s overall winner, with Geoff Stellfox’ photo “Boolu” being named the 'Fan Favorite.' By virtue of his selection, Stone's work will be featured in the matchday program for the Chicago Fire's upcoming match vs. Real Salt Lake (Saturday, 2 p.m., CSN Chicago).
Attendees enjoyed food, drinks, a live DJ and more while browsing the remarkable artwork. Browse images from the evening in the photo gallery above.
